A Democrat from Green Bay believes momentum is building to take politics out of the process for drawing Legislative boundaries.
Senator Dave Hansen is introducing a bill to set up a nonpartisan system. Majority Republican leaders in the Assembly and Senate aren’t expected to take up the proposal. But Hansen says polls show it’s something most people support. A recent Marquette University poll shows 72 percent support the change. And Hansen says 48 county boards have gone on record to endorse the plan.
Three GOP lawmakers are co-sponsoring the bill including Representative Joel Kitchens of Sturgeon Bay. Hansen says that’s the most since he started pushing for the change seven years ago.
