The Appleton school board will consider recommendations to revamp the truancy system.
Assistant Superintendent Polly Vanden Boogaard worked with a special task force. She says members want the schools to work with students on an individual basis. She says they should start reacting after two or three absences. She says if it continues they could utilize mental health counseling or other services. If it keeps happening she says the courts could get involved.
The board’s programs and services committee will review the proposed changes this morning. The district dropped its truancy court system last year after complaints about how some students were treated.
