It could cost $1.8 million dollars for Appleton to fix a railroad trestle off Lawe Street and build the connecting trails.
Jessica Lewis of Corre is a consultant for the city. She says they’ll remove the railroad ties and replace them with prefabricated decking and cable guardrails.
The trestle will link with a trail in the flats and a new one by Eagle Point Senior Living. The state is applying for a $900,000 DNR stewardship grant to cover about half of the cost. Outagamie County is also providing $200,000.
Lewis hopes they can start construction over the winter and open the trestle next summer.
