An independent investigation found 22 Norbertine priests have credible accusations of sexually abusing children.
The head of the St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere says he profoundly apologizes, and he’s asking for forgiveness from the victims.
Nineteen of the priests were from St. Norbert Abbey. The other three were from other Norbertine organizations, but they were assigned to De Pere at some time. Seventeen of them are dead. The other five are either restricted from ministry, or they left the abbey.
The report shows the credible claims go back to the 1940s. Most of the cases were from the 1960s and 1970s.
