Appleton leaders are looking at letting people drive golf carts on city streets, and the police chief wants to see what standards other communities have.
Chief Todd Thomas says Killeen, Texas is a similar-sized city to Appleton, and the carts are limited to certain areas. He says individual neighborhoods there have to allow them, and pay for signs. They’re also not allowed on streets that have a speed limit of more than 25 miles an hour.
Ald. Chris Croatt is bringing the proposal forward, because someone in his neighborhood wants to use a golf cart.
The city’s safety and licensing committee could take up the idea in the next several weeks.
