The plan to turn the Appleton Post-Crescent building into apartments is the fifth housing project to be announced in the downtown in the past several months.
Toni Willems Van Dijk is the president of the Fox Valley Apartment Association and she says it’s part of a growing trend of people wanting to live in downtowns. She thinks in the next five to 10 years the trend will pick up even more.
She says while millennials are a big part of it people of all ages are looking at renting and moving downtown.
Willems Van Dijk says the demand is also leading owners of older rental homes in the downtown Appleton area to consider renovating them to make them more attractive.
