Appleton’s school board could make a decision next week on the future of the district’s truancy system.
Assistant Superintendent Polly Vanden Boogaard says a special task force put together three options. One would use different community partners to find a way to get students to go to class. She says they would keep trying different methods to see what works.
Under that setup the district wouldn’t be able to turn to the court system. Vanden Boogaard says another option would be to turn to the county court system only if the community partnership process doesn’t work. She says the board could also decide whether students should, or shouldn’t, be able to get a truancy ticket.
The school board meets next Monday night.
