Appleton leaders are getting rid of a city rule on truancy that included the option of ticketing students for skipping class.
The move comes after the school board set up a new truancy system that eliminates the possibility of tickets.
Ald. Bill Siebers says the city waited for the school district to take action, and it was time for the city to make its decision.
The city council’s vote was 10-3.
Truancy tickets had been something the district used in its former truancy court system. The district suspended the court earlier this year, and created a special task force to put together a new system. The school board approved it a couple of weeks ago.
