It’s the first day of school for students around the Fox Valley.
Appleton Superintendent Judy Baseman says they’re stressing four areas, to make sure students have a good year. She says they’re going to focus on helping students be successful academically, socially, and emotionally.
Baseman also wants to make sure the schools have a safe, and welcoming environment for everyone.
The others areas are developing partnerships with parents and the community, and ensuring they’re using their resources in the best way.
She’s calling the first day of school “a great day.” She says they’re excited to have the children and parents back for another year.
In Oshkosh, Superintendent Vickie Cartwright says teachers and staff are ready to work with their students.
She says they’re looking at what things will help keep students engaged in school, and help them prepare to be ready for college, a career, and the community.
Cartwright says they want to focus on the whole child, and the culture of each school.
Today is also the first time in decades that students won’t be at the former Smith Elementary School. The school board closed the building, and transferred the students to Jefferson Elementary.
