The Clintonville school district is cancelling all Homecoming activities for today, after several high school students took part in a mock tribal dance at an event yesterday.
The district’s superintendent says the students wrongfully created a disrespectful mockery of Native American culture during a Homecoming dance-off competition. The dance wasn’t approved or sanctioned by the school or any school staff.
The video was posted on social media, and it drew criticism from the vice chair of the Oneida Nation and the superintendent of the Menominee Indian school district.
Clintonville’s superintendent says the district will work with local tribes to put together a long-term plan to repair the harm caused by the incident.
The high school’s Homecoming parade was scheduled for this afternoon and the football team was going to host Fox Valley Lutheran High School tonight.
