A bill passed by the Senate would make sure families of fallen police officers and EMTs could keep their health insurance.
That guarantee is already in place for surviving families of firefighters killed in the line of duty. It was created following the 2006 death of Green Bay firefighter Arnie Wolff.
Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay says it’s long overdue, and lawmakers should do the right thing by working together.
The state would cover the health insurance costs, through a police and fire protection fee that’s included on phone bills.
The proposal now goes to the Assembly.
