It was a slower summer at Appleton’s city pools.
Supervisor Kabel Helmbrecht says their attendance totals were down 26 percent to nearly 74,000 at Erb and Mead pools. He blames below-average temperatures and above-average rainfall in June.
Attendance topped 100,000 last year. That includes more than 65,000 at Erb Pool during the first full season for the new facility.
The parks and recreation department did set a record for swim lessons this year. Nearly 2,000 signed up.
