Parts of Clark Street, north of downtown Appleton, are narrow, and the city is looking to scrap plans to test making it a one-way road.
Ald. Bill Siebers wanted to convert a two-block stretch between Packard and Atlantic streets, and the city council agreed with him.
But Public Works Director Paula Vandehey says homeowners started raising concerns that all of the garbage and recycling carts would have to be placed on one side of the street for pickup. She says when Siebers talked with neighbors, they were pretty split, but the cart issue put opponents over the top.
Siebers was exploring options because it’s difficult for oncoming cars to pass by each other, especially when snow piles up in the winter.
