The proposed southern bridge project in the De Pere area is back on, and a lawmaker believes it can be a game-changer for the region.
The DOT announced it’s committing to working with local governments on the planning and design process.
The project is inside the district of Republican Sen. Andre Jacque of De Pere. He says it’s been a long-term struggle for local leaders and the economic development community. He says they’re thrilled that it’s moving forward.
Jacque pushed to include the plans in the state budget, but Governor Evers vetoed it. At the time, Evers said DOT engineers should decide the location for the interchange with I-41, and not lawmakers.
Jacque expects the location to be the same, and he thinks the veto was a mistake.
