Oshkosh police say a school police officer shot a student at Oshkosh West High School this morning, after the student stabbed the officer.
Chief Dean Smith says the 16-year-old student was shot once. The officer and student were taken to a hospital.
Only one student was hurt.
Oshkosh West students were taken to Perry Tipler Middle School to be reunited with their parents. Parents needed an ID to pick up their students.
Superintendent Vickie Cartwright says students and staff followed their protocols. She says they’ll be providing counselors to students, starting tomorrow.
Classes are cancelled at all district schools tomorrow.
Cartwright says they’re grateful for the cooperation and patience of parents.
The state justice department is investigating, because it was a police shooting.
The Oshkosh Boys and Girls Club is opening the Teen Center at 11 a.m. to give students a safe place to go.
