People don’t have to worry about fines anymore at the Kaukauna Public Library.
The library is the first in the Fox Cities to eliminate overdue fees. It’s a growing national trend.
Director Ashley Thiem-Menning says it’s not their job to teach people responsibility. She wants everyone to be able to have access to the library.
The library is also dropping all past balances for fines. Seventeen percent of all Kaukauna library card accounts were frozen at the end of last year, because of late fees.
The change is expected to cost the library about $6,000 in revenue every year.
