The state is seeing a big increase in the number of flu cases, and people needing to stay at a hospital.
The Department of Health Services reports more than 450 hospitalizations so far this season. That’s three times as many as a year ago.
The agency’s Tom Haupt says a lot of them have been under 65 years old. They’re also seeing more younger children. In a typical year, almost two-thirds of people hospitalized are at least 65.
Eleven people in Wisconsin have died from complications from the flu.
Haupt says there’s still time for people to get a flu shot.
The CDC also elevated the state to the “high” category for flu activity, because of the spike in hospitalizations recently.
