Two former top administrators at UW-Oshkosh are pleading guilty to one felony misconduct charge for their roles in the university’s foundation scandal.
Former Chancellor Richard Wells and Vice Chancellor Thomas Sonnleitner will each have to pay $75,000 in restitution and fines. They won’t spend any time in jail.
Wells and Sonnleitner were charged with illegally guaranteeing loans to the UW-Oshkosh Foundation for several projects. They included the Alumni Welcome and Conference Center.
The foundation couldn’t make the loan payments, and a federal judge ordered the university to pay the foundation $15 million. The state started investigating Wells and Sonnleitner three years ago.
