The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department says a person wanted on felony warrants and for questioning about multiple crimes was killed in a police shooting.
Sheriff John Matz says several SWAT members were involved.
He says the Lake Winnebago Area MEG unit went to a home in the 800 block of Grove Street to question a suspect, around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The home is near the border of Appleton and Fox Crossing.
Matz says the person wouldn’t cooperate, and they called in SWAT officers. Sheriff’s Capt. Lara Vendola-Messer says the shooting happened shortly after SWAT got there.
Matz says several shots were fired.
The Sheriff’s Department says there is no threat to the community.
The state justice department will handle the investigation. That’s routine when there’s a police shooting.
