Outagamie County is threatening to leave a regional planning group.
The East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission covers eight counties.
The county’s finance committee voted unanimously Tuesday to get out.
County Board Chair Jeff Nooyen doesn’t think they’re getting back what they’re putting in. He says Outagamie County taxpayers are on the hook for $250,000 a year, and that’s 30 percent of the commission’s budget.
Nooyen says similar-sized counties like La Crosse, Marathon and Sheboygan are paying about half of what Outagamie County has been.
He stresses that they’re still committed to regional planning.
The proposal still has to go to the full county board.
