A report shows the state is getting in better financial shape.
The Wisconsin Policy Forum found the deficit in the general fund was almost $775 million, at the end of the last fiscal year. That’s down 38 percent from a year earlier, and the lowest figure in at least 29 years.
Researcher Jason Stein says the state has had to hold off on paying some bills until the next fiscal year, because of deficits.
Wisconsin was one of three states in the country with a negative balance at the end of the fiscal year. The deficit was $2 billion higher in 2011.
