Drivers in Oshkosh will have to start getting used to not having the Oshkosh Avenue Bridge for a while.
The DOT is closing it today, and it’s not expected to reopen for four months. The state is refurbishing the bridge.
Director of Public Works James Rabe believes the project will have a big impact on drivers. He says the bridge is the northern-most one that crosses the Fox River. The detours include I-41, and the Ohio Street Bridge.
Rabe says crews will re-do the bridge deck, and sandblast and repaint the steel girders. The state owns the bridge, and the DOT is covering much of the cost.
The lift-bridge portion needs to be open for boat traffic by April 10th.
