The daughter of a state lawmaker is going to prison for 13 years for the overdose death of a pregnant woman and other drug charges.
Cassandra Nygren and her boyfriend, Shawn Gray, sold heroin to Jennifer Skeen of Green Bay in 2017. Skeen was five months pregnant when she died of a fentanyl overdose.
Brown County Judge John Zakowski also sentenced Nygren to 17 years on probation. He told her she’s had “chances up the gazzoo, and you’ve blown it. You’ve hurt your family, and you’ve killed people.”
The 31-year-old Nygren says she’ll take every opportunity in prison to better herself. She says she plans to continue therapy, after she’s released.
Nygren was convicted of first-degree reckless homicide.
Gray is serving a 12-year prison sentence.
Nygren’s father is Republican Representative John Nygren of Marinette.
