There are plans to pay off the loan for the Fox Cities Exhibition Center 10 years early, and save $10 million.
Appleton Finance Director Tony Saucerman says they’ve been able to make bigger payments, so far. He says room taxes are coming in at a higher rate than expected.
Three percent of the 10 percent hotel room tax in the Fox Cities goes to the Exhibition Center. Saucerman says they want to finish paying the loan in 2041, instead of 2051.
There’s more than $2.5 million in the room tax fund for the center right now. That’s about $600,000 more than anticipated.
