Mechanics will be going over a Valley Transit bus to search for the cause of a fire this morning.
The back of the bus caught fire at a stop along Route 8, on Appleton’s south side.
General Manager Ron McDonald says the driver was stopping along Schaefer Street by Calumet Street, around 6:30 a.m., to pick up a passenger. He says everyone got off the bus safely.
McDonald believes it’s extremely rare to have a bus catch fire, along a route. He doesn’t remember it happening in his 30 years working for bus systems.
Appleton firefighters were able to put out the fire.
