Small robots are combing the sewers in Milwaukee looking for signs of coronavirus.
The UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences is using “eco-bots” already in the sanitary sewer system to track opioid use.
Winnebago County Health Director Doug Gieryn says he’d be interested in doing that, but the university is planning on expanding the study so far.
Gieryn says they’d be able to use the information to pinpoint areas where COVID-19 exists, before standard testing could detect it. He believes that could help prevent outbreaks.
