About 15 percent of all weekly unemployment claims filed during the pandemic are still going through the process.
The Department of Workforce Development reports 74 percent have been paid, and 12 percent were denied.
Governor Evers says it’s not acceptable for the state to be struggling to take care of all claims. He says people should be getting their money, but the state couldn’t have guessed they’d have such a strain on their system.
Evers says what they do know, is their system was deemed to be unacceptable several years ago, and it was never corrected.
About 150,000 filers currently haven’t received payments for at least one week, because of issues with their claims. There are about 525 workers handling those cases, and that’s 350 more than before the pandemic hit.
Republican lawmakers have been critical of how Evers has handled unemployment claims.
