A kitchen fire caused about $10,000 in damage to an apartment on Appleton’s north side.
Firefighters were called to the 1600 block of W. Weiland Lane around 9 p.m. yesterday. They found smoke and flames in the kitchen.
The owner said he put a grease-filled pan on the stove, turned on the heat, and left the room.
No one was hurt. The people couldn’t stay in the apartment last night, and the Red Cross is helping them.
