The state’s Republican in the U.S. Senate doesn’t want to extend federal unemployment payments beyond this week.
Sen. Ron Johnson of Oshkosh tells Josh Dukelow on Fresh Take the extra money is keeping people from looking for work. He points to a study by the Foundation for Government Accountability that claims as many as 80 percent currently on unemployment are making more with the $600 weekly payment than they did while working.
Johnson also opposes any new federal stimulus bills. He says they still haven’t accounted for all of the spending from packages that were passed months ago.
