UW-Oshkosh’s theatre building now has a new name.
The school is removing Fredric March’s name, after he appeared in a UW-Madison yearbook picture with a fraternity society called the “Ku Klux Klan.”
Chancellor Andrew Leavitt says it will now be known as the Theatre Arts Center. He says while March did some very progressive and socially just things later in life, it’s an inescapable fact that he was once identified with a hate group.
UW-Madison dropped March’s name from a small theatre and another space in the Memorial Union two years ago.
UW-Oshkosh reviewed that school’s investigation.
