A state agency isn’t recommending a specific threshold for districts to close schools, and move to virtual classes.
Department of Health Services Secretary Andrea Palm says that’s because each situation could be unique. She points out there are more than 420 school districts with different types of buildings. She says the rate of spread in a community, and the health care resources that are available, can also vary.
Palm says all of those factors need to be taken into account, when school districts and local public health officials decide how to handle COVID-19 cases.
Last week, the agency released a series of recommendations for school districts on how to respond to coronavirus cases.
