A free tuition program that could be expanded statewide is helping almost 1,400 students at UW-Madison.
UW System President Tommy Thompson is asking the state to fund it for all of the state’s universities.
UW-Madison Director of Financial Aid Helen Faith says Bucky’s Tuition Program helps families with an income up to $60,000 a year. She says some prospective students don’t want to burden their families.
New students can receive four years of free tuition, and transfers are eligible for two years.
UW-Madison’s program cost $2.2 million last year.
