Latinos account for nearly seven percent of the COVID-19 cases in Winnebago County.
That’s despite making up only 3-1/2 percent of the population.
Winnebago County Health Department Policy and Equity Coordinator Niki Euhardy says job situations are likely a factor in the higher rate. She says they’re less likely to have paid sick leave, and they make up a higher percentage of “essential workers.”
Euhardy says other minority groups also have higher infection rates than their population rate in Winnebago County.
