The state’s unemployment rate went down to 6.2 percent last month.
It was 7.1 percent in July, and 3.4 percent a year ago.
Companies added 16,700 jobs in August. The state is still down nearly 200,000 jobs in the private sector, compared to a year ago.
The public sector also added 18,000 positions last month, and the overall total is down about 22,000 from August of 2019.
