Some state elections officials are worried that slowdowns in mail delivery will keep absentee ballots from getting to clerks offices in time, even if they were sent by the required deadline.
Elections Commission Member Mark Thomsen hopes a federal lawsuit will extend the deadline for receiving those ballots by one week.
Under state law, absentee ballots need to be received in the clerk’s office by November 3rd to be counted. There are several lawsuits seeking a one-week extension.
