There are three official options on the table for the possible expansion of I-41 between Grand Chute and De Pere.
The DOT is considering rebuilding the road with three lanes in each direction. Project Manager Scott Ebel says they would use the space in the median for the additional lanes.
Rebuilding the road, and using one of the shoulders as a lane, during peak travel times, is another possibility. Ebel says that’s what the DOT is doing for a project in Madison, where there isn’t room to add more lanes.
The DOT is also looking at rebuilding I-41 with the same two lanes in each direction.
Ebel says they’re also considering options for all of the interchanges along the interstate. They include putting in roundabouts, or a diverging diamond like was built at Highway 441 and Oneida Street in the Appleton area.
