An audit of the state’s unemployment call centers found in the first three months of the pandemic, 93 percent of calls were blocked, or people got busy signals.
The nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau found about 41.1 million calls came in from March 15th through the end of June. Another six percent were abandoned before people could talk with someone, and a half-percent went unanswered.
Over a certain period, auditors also discovered 19.6 million calls were either blocked or ended with busy signals, while the state Department of Workforce Development only reported 4.9 million.
Governor Evers asked for the resignation of DWD Secretary Caleb Frostman last Friday, and Frostman stepped down.
