UW-Oshkosh is working with the CDC to share test results from what are called coronavirus antigen tests.
They can provide results in about 15 minutes, compared to a few days for the more common PCR tests.
The university is using antigen kits to test each student living in a dorm, every other week.
Kimberly Langolf is leading UWO’s COVID-19 response, and she says the agency wants to better understand the comparison of the two types of tests, and primarily using antigen tests to survey larger groups of people. She says that’s what the university is doing, and the CDC hopes the data can help other college campuses, and possibly in assisted-living facilities.
The university is partnering with Prevea Health, and up to 430 people can get tested every day.
