A grant will help members of the Appleton Fire Department increase their mental health.
Battalion Chief Derek Henson says firefighters and police officers often suffer from PTSD because of the stressful line of work. He says national numbers show 19 percent of firefighters experience suicidal thoughts.
This grant will pay for 27 eight hours days of office hours while firefighters are on duty to get a checkup, and talk about work and life experiences. He calls a similar grant last year a success.
