The United Kingdom variant of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Waupaca County.
The Public Health Department says the patient tested positive for COVID-19 in late January and has completed isolation. Lab results confirmed the B.1.1.7 variant.
There are 26 known cases of the variant in Wisconsin so far and health officials believe there are likely more out there. Officials at the Department of Health Services believe the variant spreads more quickly, but there’s no indication it causes more sever illness or increased risk of death.
