Proposed changes to the Chief Oshkosh statue in Menominee Park look to provide a more accurate portrayal of the man and his people. U-W Oshkosh Professor Pascale Manning says that statue should be surrounded by plaques that detail displacement of the Menominee from the land that is now Oshkosh and a more accurate physical portrayal of the Chief. Menominee Nation representatives that worked on a group to draft the language on the plaques are opposed to removing the statue itself. The project will likely have to be funded by private donations.
