As the Neenah Board of Education discussed a COVID-19 masking policy for the coming school year, about two-dozen parents and children marched through the downtown. Their message: “Unmask Our Kids”. They oppose mandatory masking. Some like Scott Behrmann say it’s a matter of freedom of choice.
“We know as parents,” Behrmann said. “Our best choices and our children’s best choices. And we have them in mind.”
One woman, who asked not to be identified, says mandatory masking puts kids in an uncomfortable position.
“They’re putting children in that position that they’re going to bet bullied,” she said. “Because one set of kids get the mask and the other set doesn’t have to wear that. This is going to be awful. Awful.”
School board members voted overwhelmingly to adopt the COVID Recovery Plan. The plan allows optional masking but also gives the district the flexibility to require masking when the most recent data show increased incidences of COVID-19 in classrooms and schools.
