FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. — A small plane crashed near Ripon Thursday afternoon.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department says the aircraft came down near Highway 44 and Douglas Street shortly after noon. Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says the plane was attempting an emergency landing in a recently plowed farm field which was saturated by heavy rains from Wednesday night’s severe storms. Waldschmidt says the plane’s wheel got caught in mud and caused it to flip on to its roof.
Waldschmidt says the occupants of the plane suffered minor injuries in that crash. According to officials, the 1933 Stinson single engine plane was traveling from Indiana to EAA in Oshkosh.
The pilot, 40-year-old Justin Click from Hobart, Indiana, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Three passengers, ranging from 11 to 20 years old, were unharmed.
The FAA will investigate.
