Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford’s order this week requiring face masks for all people inside city-operated buildings is creating conflict with some members of the Common Council. Alders Sheri Hartzheim, Chad Doran, Joe Martin and Council President Matthew Reed introduced a resolution this week that asks the Mayor not to issue any more orders until a new Health Officer is hired.
Woodford immediately referred the resolution to the city’s Board of Health–and urged council members and the public not to engage in disrespectful debate. The resolution also points out that the city has not hired a Health Officer–even though former officer Kurt Eggebrecht expressed a desire to retire before the pandemic started.
