Appleton City Council member Sheri Hartzheim and dozens of supporter voice their opposition to mandatory masking prior to the regular meeting of the Appleton Area School District Board of Education
Nearly 50 people turned out to support an Appleton City Council member in opposition to the masking mandate in the Appleton School District. Alderperson Sheri Hartzheim and her supporters believe masking should be optional. She was also concerned that she couldn’t make her point at the school board’s regular meeting mask-less.
“I would like to have the district, first of all, listen to parents more.” she says.” Mask optional policies can work. If they weren’t working, how could our fellow private schools be operating as the area?”
Nearly 50 people showed their support prior to last night’s regular board meeting. However, about a half-dozen mandatory masking supporters also showed up. John Goff says required masking works.
“This year because we have a mask mandate, now kids can be at school,” he said. “Other schools that have tried starting without mask mandates, they’ve already had to shut down.”
Those who wanted to speak against mandatory masking had the opportunity but weren’t allowed inside without a mask.
