A Kaukauna school is seeing an increase in illnesses in addition to COVID-19. According to a school district email, Park Community Charter School is seeing 12% of the student body staying home. That’s considered to be a very high rate of absences. Ty Maki, the district’s Director of Education, says current testing show no classroom-wide spread of diseases.
“Twelve-percent of the student body was out but only three-percent of that was COVID. A total of eight cases,” Maki says. “We were able to notice the trends in families. So out of that eight, five were from two families.”
Maki also says the district is closely monitoring the situation and testing conducted at the high school is showing some promising signs.
“Approximately 14 or 15 have come in and got tested over the past two days,” he says. “All were negative. But with symptoms similar to COVID. So we’ve been doing our part in testing as many people that wanted to be tested.”
The Kaukauna School District recommends parents watch their children for signs of illness, follow sanitation and hygiene procedures and keep kids home if they’re showing signs of illness.
