The search for a missing Fond du Lac man and his infant daughter has ended successfully. Jordan and Serenity Smack have been located safe at residence in the City of Fond du Lac. They’d been missing since late Thursday night following a minor accident. Late this morning, Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt announced the news he and the searchers wanted to hear.
“They were safe and basically unharmed,” Sheriff Waldschmidt said. “So, it’s more of a precautionary measure to go to the hospital. We do believe they were out here last night. But how they got from here to the City of Fond du Lac and why it took this long for us to receive the information as to where they were, that’s all things we’ll get answered. You know the investigation will continue.”
Jordan Smack took Serenity, who was in a car seat, into a marshy area following a minor auto accident around 10:30 PM Thursday. Smack left his girlfriend behind. The woman managed to get the car out of a ditch where it went from Brown Road west of Townline Road in the Town of Lamartine. After failing to reach Jordan Smack on his cellphone, the woman contacted authorities around 2:30 AM Friday. A search around the accident scene located the infant’s car seat but no sign of Jordan or Serenity. Searchers were preparing to go out again when Sheriff Waldschmidt announced they’d been found and a deputy had been dispatched to the location. Waldschmidt called it the outcome everyone was hoping for.
“The best case scenario! There were found safe and sound and now we’ll move into the next phase of the investigation,” Waldschmidt said. “Literally, all I wanted to know was that we had deputy with them, eyes on both of them and both of them were safe and sound. When I got that confirmation, I came back. Again, I don’t have any details about what led us to the address they were at.”
Over 100 emergency personnel from multiple agencies took part in the search for Jordan and Serenity. Sheriff Waldschmidt thanks all of the citizens who provided tips and information.
