Oshkosh Common Council approves the purchase of a site for the new Day By Day Warming Shelter. The city will buy the property at the corner of Ceape Avenue and Broad Street for $150,000 and sell it to shelter organizers for one-dollar. The purchase approval came after extensive public comment. Jason Havlik, who serves on Day By Day’s Board of Directors, says the site is the best possible location to help area homeless people.
The purchase approval came despite continued objection from the Oshkosh Community Foundation. Jeff Tremblay say the foundation supports the shelter concept but hoped the council would pause on a final decision.
The council approved the purchase on a five-to-one vote, with one abstention. The purchase now allows Day By Day organizers to continue raising funds for design and construction
