The costs of demolishing the former Whiting Paper Mill site in Menasha are higher than expected. Most of the building has been brought down. As more is demolished, however, more regulated waste is being found. Menasha’s Community Development Department says the original base cost estimate was for $193,500 and $40,600 for regulated waste. The cost of removing regulated waste now stands at nearly $80,510. The vacant mill was destroyed in May 2021 by a fire, which prompted Menasha city officials to demolish the building in the interest of public safety.
