Winnebago County District Attorney Christian Gossett announces his resignation effective May 7th. Gossett says in a news release he “…believe(s) it is in my and my family’s best interest for me to step back from obligations that are unique to this position. I believe it is an ideal time to take this step as our office is functioning at a very high level with an extremely competent team.” Gossett also recommends to Governor Evers to appoint Deputy District Attorney Eric Sparr as district attorney. Whomever Governor Evers selects for the post will fill out the remainder of Gossett’s term, which ends January of 2025.
